About Us

Hey, have you eaten?

In many Asian cultures, one of the first ways of greeting someone is asking if they’ve eaten yet. Why, you might ask? We don’t eat to survive. Food is a love language, the centerpiece of many families and friendships. It’s not just a way to show hospitality, it’s also a way to communicate care. Sharing a meal is what forms a kinship with people around us.

We grew up with an understanding that food is a symbol for love, community, and relationships. A great meal brings people together and creates spaces to learn and share stories. With our unique cultures and passions, we wanted to create a resource that serves to inspire community engagement and relationship building amongst our readers. Here’s what we’re bringing to the table:

  • RECIPES: Delicious, affordable, and healthy meals
  • NUTRITION: The science behind what you eat
  • CULTURE: Diverse people and the food they grew up with

With this blog, hopefully when someone ever asks: “Hey, Have you eaten?” You’d be able to answer, “No, but let’s eat together!

I’m a third-culture kid who grew up in Singapore, Shanghai, and is now based in Chicago as a video journalist. I write, shoot, produce, edit, and all that jazz! Food is my passion and language of love. I miss my grandmother’s dark soy sauce ginger chicken, pan-fried pomfret, and lotus root soup every day. Having lived a somewhat nomadic life, food is integral to what defines home for me. The idea for this blog was born out of a desire to keep my creativity thriving and to honor my cultural roots – and of course to create a resource for tools to foster community. What better way to bring people together than happy tummies!

1462416227093 (1)안녕하새요! 오늘 밥드셨어요? I am a Korean American gal, going through life in the city of Chicago as a dietetic intern, and no, that’s not a translation for weight loss counselor. As a future Registered Dietitian (RD), I hope to show people how food is a unique tool that empowers, connects, and loves on people. Yes, food is a necessity and is your body’s first medicine, but there’s so much more to it than just “putting premium gas in your engine.” In our society where there’s so many walls and barriers against everyone and everything, food can be so powerful in sharing life, love, and community with those around us. Starting this blog was one way for me to do this, and I hope my experiences and knowledge can be a reliable resource to you all!

Hi Peeps! My name is Daniel and I grew up eating Korean food at home thanks to my loving mother that prepared feasts worthy of royalty. My packed lunches were just as well prepared as my friends jealously waited for me to offer them a bite of goodness. Great food is a key foundation of friendship in my book, so let’s get cooking.
